Irrigation

The water is usually stored and delivered via very large storage tanks that do not have to be rated for potable water.  This allows the use of surplus tanks which can be had at a great savings.  This type of system starts out at a full condition, which is provided by an engine run pump initially, and then sustained by solar pumps.  The well delivery capacity is always the limiting factor in this type of system, with a float switch controlling a bottom exit valve to distribute gravity flow to various areas of irrigation.  The timed rate of flow will determine a minimum water level much like a storage battery.

In the rare event that there is sustainable wind energy, it could supply water storage, but it would be rare to have enough for both water and electrical energy.
